Our Children Need Our Help To Stay Healthy
Statistics for childhood obesity in the U.S. are alarming and getting worse. More than 20 percent of our kids are now categorized as overweight. Pediatricians, nutritionists and other experts say that fast food and lack of physical activity contribute to this troubling trend. But the biggest concern about childhood obesity may be long-term. There are a staggering number of children who are developing Type II Diabetes and heart disease in their teenage years which are more traditionally thought of as adult-onset related to weight. The combination of a sedentary urban lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits affects all aspects of the human body. It lowers energy levels and suppresses our immune system. Youngsters born in the technology age get very little physical activity as they spend most of their time in front of the television or playing video games. Additionally, as more and more schools cut back dramatically on their physical fitness programs and recess time, it’s going to be up to the parents to ensure that our children are fit and healthy.
